The following description is for the course offering in Spring 2022 and is subject to change. It is provided for information only. The course outline distributed to the class at the beginning of the semester describes the course content and delivery, and defines the methods and criteria to be used in establishing the final grades for the course.
 

This special study option enables undergraduate students in semesters 5 through 8 to undertake specific projects in agricultural sciences. The topic of the special study will be determined in consultation with a faculty member and the individual student. Students are responsible for making appropriate arrangements with faculty at the departmental and/or college level prior to registration for the course. At the successful completion of the course students will have experience in:

  • Planning and conducting a self-directed study experience that included an in-depth investigation of a specific topic in Agricultural Science that is of interest to the student.
  • Producing an academic product (e.g., a final report) that is appropriate to the 3000 course level and 0.5-credit weighting, that includes responding to assessments by a faculty advisor with expertise in the chosen area of study.

The objectives of the course are to enhance love of learning and promote life-long learning through self-directed inquiry.
