At the 58th annual meeting of the Weed Science Society of America (WSSA) in Arlington, Virginia, two of our graduate students in the Department of Plant Agriculture won awards. This is an impressive achievement as they had to compete against top graduate students from various universities around the world.
Brendan Metzger, a student in the weed management program at Ridgetown Campus, won 1st place in the Master of Science Oral Presentation Contest (Agronomic Crops section.) Brendan is working with Dr. Peter Sikkema on the development of tolpyralate for weed management in field crops.
Meghan Grguric, with a stunning display of oratory excellence, placed 2nd in the same competition. Meghan is a graduate student in the Weed Science Program in the Department of Plant Agriculture. She is working with Dr François Tardif and Mr. Mike Cowbrough on the management of giant hogweed with selective herbicides and mechanical methods.
Both Brendan and Meghan are excellent representatives of the graduate students at the University of Guelph, Ridgetown Campus and Main Campus. Please take a moment to congratulate them on their achievement.
