The Department of Plant Agriculture is pleased to welcome John Watson into the position of Guelph Turfgrass Institute (GTI) Communications Assistant.

John comes to us with over 10 years of practical experience in the golf course industry. Since 2008 he has held the position of Assistant Golf Course Superintendent at Victoria Park West and most recently Victoria Park Valley golf courses here in Guelph. He has learned many invaluable skills from local golf course superintendents' David DeCorso and Jason Sewell.

“We are very excited to have John on board,” says Stephen Fleischauer, Interim Director of the GTI. “I know that his extensive connections and forged relationships with members of the turf community will allow him to gain momentum, and publicize our important work from Faculty, Graduate Students, and the University’s Associate Diploma in Turfgrass Management.”

John has both a B.Sc. in Agriculture and a M.Sc. in Plant Agriculture from the University of Guelph. His M.Sc. research focused on nitrogen fertility of different species of putting green turf.

So when you see him around make sure to give him a warm welcome!
