2014 Superintendent In Residence

Overview:

Stefan Nilsson, Vallda Golf & Country Club, Gothenburg, Sweden

February 10-12, 2014

Stefan Nilsson has been working in practical greenkeeping for twenty-two years, the last nineteen as a course manager. During this time he has had the opportunity to work at different golf courses with different conditions. For the past seven years, Stefan has been employed by Vallda Golf & Country Club in Gothenburg where he led  course construction and ongoing maintenance. The course was seeded to red fescue that provides enhanced sustainability and unique playing conditions supporting the original Scottish chip and run game. In 2012, Stefan was named the Sweden’s Greenkeeper of the Year.

During his visit to Guelph, Stefan will be attending classes and interacting with faculty and students in the Associate Diploma in Turfgrass Management and Turf Managers’ Short Course program. He will also be giving a public lecture at Cutten Fields on Tuesday, February 11th from 5:30-6:30 pm entitled “Practical Greenkeeping in Scandinavia”. The lecture is open to all and will be followed by a reception.

The Superintendent in Residence program is made possible through the generous support provided by industry and university sponsors.
