The Ontario Agricultural College (OAC) at the University of Guelph supports high school teachers and secondary school students through a variety of outreach initiatives. These programs are based on four main pillars: food, agriculture, the environment and communities.

OAC, along with the Department of Plant Agriculture and School of Environmental Sciences, participated in the Environment and Plants Workshop in Milton today. The event is geared toward grade 11 and 12 students interested in agriculture, biology, ecology, environmental sciences and plants. The Environment and Plants Workshop provides an opportunity for high school students to attend a lecture, participate in a hands-on activity, and learn about a variety of career opportunities in agriculture and the environment.

4 members of the department of Plant Ag (Weilong Xie, Maryam Vazin, Esteban Diaz Castro and Loo-Sar Chia) led a DNA Isolation to show how to do bean leaf DNA extraction using regular household materials (like soap, salt, sand and alcohol) About 90 students from 3 schools attended this full day event.
